The pineapple cushion is a trendy decorating object that can be made in many different fabrics and shapes for a different look. A pineapple cushion is also a perfect handmade gift for women, men and children!
So, are you ready to follow this step by step to easily make your own pineapple cushion?
DIY Pineapple cushion materials needed:
- Pineapple cushion pattern to be found here
- Half meter of fabric
- Fat quarter of interfacing/interlining
Cut the different pieces of the pattern.
You should have the different pieces as shown below.
Sew the 3 big leaves together. Half leaf to be stitched to the next one.
Wrong sides together, inserting the interfacing.
Now, sew the 3 small leaves individually. Sew the wrong sides together, inserting the interfacing.
On the next step, you will topstitch the small leaves onto the big ones. Put the back of the small leaves onto the front of the big ones.
Put them aside when finished.
Sew the pineapple bodice, 2 by 2. Right sides together. You will have 3 different parts. Press the seams and turn
them right sides out.
Sew the top op the pineapple body to the bottom of the leaves (that are now sewn together). Right sides together. Sew from one edge of the leaves to the other side (when you are at the center of the body, where your seam is, put your needle down
and match the edges of the fabric.
Once your 3 parts of the pineapple cushion body are sewn to the leaves, you can stitch their sides together.
Right side against right side.
Make sure you place the leaves inside the pineapple (right sides touching) before the final stitching of the pineapple cushion body parts.
Leave one big gap at the bottom to turn the pineapple out.
Turn the pineapple cushion right side out through that whole you left.
This already looks like a pineapple, doesn’t it?
Topstitch your leaves together, on the existing stitches, to fix them together, so they don’t fall down.
2 stitches on each side will be enough.
Fill in your pineapple with the Batting
And for the final step, handstitch the gap you left with a slip stitch.
And ta-dah! your pineapple cushion is ready!
Try with different fabrics for a different finishing! This pineapple cushion is very nice for decorating. You can also use the pineapple cushion as a doorstop or as a book-stop.
The pineapple cushion is the perfect handmade gift for all genders and ages, don’t you think?
